Earlier this week we touched on all of the health benefits that come with turmeric. Here’s great way to incorporate turmeric in your daily life. There is a fine line between a delicious, creamy golden milk and a golden milk that tastes like dirt . As beneficial as turmeric is, a little goes a long way. There is no need to serve a heaping spoon of turmeric in your golden milk. In fact, I’ve had golden milk lattes at a few coffee shops and that’s exactly what it tasted like (too much turmeric).
A classic ‘haldi doodh’ recipe is traditionally milk and turmeric and nothing else, however while testing this recipe it was my goal to get both my girls to like this drink without questioning all of the ingredients. The nutmeg, vanilla and sweetener play a big part in why they drank the entire thing!
This is a perfect drink either in the morning or night right before bed. The best thing about this recipe is that it is versatile and can be whatever you want it to be. I used whole milk because that is what my daughter prefer at the moment, however feel free to use unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I also used whole cardamom and cinnamon sticks, you can sub this with cardamom powder and cinnamon powder. I prefer ginger in my milk, but I omitted it for this time.
Also note that this isn’t a latte recipe but you can mix in your milk with a espresso for that caffeine kick.

- Place all ingredients into a small saucepan and bring to a light boil.
- Whisk to combine ingredients. Simmer on low for up to 10 minutes.
- OPTIONAL: Strain the milk into a milk frother or use a handheld frother. (optional only bc I love a good froth but not necessary!)
- If you don't froth your milk, strain the milk into a mug using a mesh strainer in order to eliminate the chunks of cinnamon and cardamom.
- Optional ingredients could include espresso, ginger, peppercorns, dash of cinnamon etc. Drink while warm!
